About me
Hi, my name is Mike, the owner of The Dadbod Gym. I’m a married dad of 3 kids, with a full time job. I know how hard it is to find time for yourself to focus on exercise and movement. In 2011, I started building out my garage gym, slowly piece by piece. I want to show that it is possible to nurture your mind and body with fitness, but more importantly how it enables you to be the best version of yourself for your family. For me, family is the most important thing in my life. I found through trial and error that working out was not only a hobby, but the catalyst for making me feel good and a way of relieving stress. This allows me to be the best father and husband I can be, which is ultimately why I do this. I have found that my message resonates with others in similar situations and that showing how I tackle each day through fitness helps motivate and inspire others. Every one has a personal journey with fitness, but if my journey in anyway helps keep even one person focused on their journey, then the mission of The Dadbod Gym was a success.
History
Back in 2011, I started building out my garage with pieces of gym equipment. I started slowly…first a pull-up bar, then a cheap barbell and iron weights, one floor mat, etc. It was the epitome of rugged, complete with kids bicycles, lawn mower and shelves of tools.
By 2015, I had a squat cage, box jump, a few bumper plates and still a boat load of bikes and tools. But, it was really starting to resemble a gym inside of a garage.
2019 was a great year as that is when I got my rower. I started to slowly move tools to other locations in the house. The flooring covered the whole floor and I had so many other pieces of equipment, even some I no longer have like that giant tractor tire.
Fast forward to today and I’m so incredibly fortunate to have built out such an amazing space. No longer do I have a gym in a garage, I now have an official garage gym. Complete with everything I’ll ever need. This is my sanctuary where I go to be as consistent as I can, push however hard I can for that day and become the best version of me I can build along the way.
Family
Finally, the reason that drives me to be as consistent as possible and be the best version of myself…..my family. Though my kids are basically young adults now, I started this journey when they were 4, 6, and 8. That’s a lot of years of consistency and something I’ve learned to become very proud of the years, though not nearly as proud of the family my wife and I have raised together. In anything you do, find your “why'“. Why do you do what you do….the moment you find that “why” is a powerful moment that will allow you to do some pretty incredible things for yourself. To my family, I love you so much! Thanks for being my biggest supporters.
….and not to forget the gym dogs, Bo and Tucker. They are always excited to come and play in the gym too.
